Did you know?
Markus became the first Austrian to win his national title when he won the Austrian Golf Open in 2002.
Biography
Austrian amateur international and one of the few golfers from his country to secure Membership of The European Tour. Did not manage to win any Challenge Tour titles in 1999 but secured his card in third place behind Carl Suneson and Iain Pyman with a string of consistent performances including two runners-up and three third places. >br/>Made four unsuccessful attempts to gain his card through the Qualifying School but made amends with his excellent 1999 Challenge Tour season and consolidated in 2000 by finishing a commendable 67th in the 2000 Volvo Order of Merit. Another consistent season in 2001 ensured no return trip to San Roque was required. Took a break from his European Tour commitments to win on the Challenge Tour in 2002, a special victory coming as it did in his homeland in the Austrian Golf Open 2002, the first Austrian to win his national title. Only missed eight cuts in 26 starts on the Tour in 2002 but too many disappointing weekends meant a return to the Qualifying School Finals at Emporda and Pals. Started in style with a hole in one on the opening day which paved the way for him to return to The European Tour, winning the fourth card at the end of the six round examination. Retained card for 2004 by finishing 82nd in the Volvo Order of Merit with the help of two top ten finishes. In 2006, Markus won his first tour victory at the Austrain Open. Markus finished up in 2007 having the best season of his career. He won the Volvo China Open and came in 2nd at the Italian Open.
