Biography
Son of Sweden's most popular comedian and impressionist, Bo, he is easily recognised by his trademark baseball cap with upturned peak and drainpipe trousers. Twice a runner-up in the Open Championship, first in 1994 when he held a two stroke lead playing the final hole at Turnberry but made bogey while Nick Price finished birdie-eagle-par to win by one. Jesper was 2nd again in 1997 when he led by two going into the final round but was overtaken by Justin Leonard on the final day. Became the first Swede to win a European Tour event in Sweden when he won the 1995 Volvo Scandinavian Masters. Finished 4th in the 1995 US PGA Tour Qualifying School and won his first American title, the Phoenix Open, in 1998 to become only the second Swede to win in America after Gabriel Hjertstedt. Last win worldwide came in the 2001 Honda Classic on the US PGA Tour, last European Tour success was in the 1998 Volvo Scandinavian Masters. Jesper was a wild card in his three Ryder Cup appearances to date, dove-tailing magnificently with rookie Sergio Garcia in the 1999 Ryder Cup Matches, steering the teenager through his debut and collecting three-and-a-half points in the process. Went out last in the singles in The 34th Ryder Cup Matches at The De Vere Belfry against Tiger Woods, securing a half point in Europe's 15 1/2 -12 1/2 victory. Wife, Mia, gave birth in 1999 to their third daughter, Pebble Peach Philippa (named after his favourite course, Pebble Beach). Other children are Ida Josefin Peg (named after tee peg) and Penny (named after the coin he uses to mark his ball). Son Phoenix was born in 2001, named after where he won his first US PGA Tour event. Brother-in-law to Per-Ulrik Johansson following his sister's wedding to his fellow professional in August 2002. Made the headlines in 2003 for the wrong reasons when he was involved in the scorecard mix-up which led to himself and Mark Roe being disqualified after the third round of the 132nd Open Golf Championship at Royal St George's. Opened the 2004 year with three top-10s in his first five events and his 40th place finish on the PGA Tour money list was his best since finishing 31st in 2001.
