Biography
A tie for second place in the 60th Italian Open Telecom Italia proved the highlight of 2003 in a year where he finished 93rd on the Volvo Order of Merit, his highest ever placing.
After the disappointment of twice missing his card from the Challenge Tour - he was 18th in 1998 and 19th in 1999 - he deserved his chance to shine after finishing 11th in 2000.
But unfortunately picked up an injury and could not play in the second half of 2001, finishing 158th on the Volvo Order of Merit. Returned on a Medical Extension in 2002 following surgery on his wrist but finished 164th and went back to the Qualifying School to regain his card in 35th position.
Enjoyed a highly successful amateur career after beginning his golfing career as a ten year old caddieing for his five handicap father Manuel in Valencia.
Represented Spain at boys and youth levels before playing for the senior side for six years.
Is a good friend of Sergio Garcia, having played a lot of amateur golf together.
Jose won his first tour event in 2007 at the UBS Hong Kong Open.
